Inter Miami boss Javier Mascherano again avoided questions on Lionel Messi's featuring chances against Tigres in the Leagues Cup quarterfinal. Inter Miami is set to take-on Liga MX side on Wednesday, August 20, at the Chase Stadium.
However, there is no certainty on Lionel Messi's availability ahead of the crucial tie. Messi picked up an injury against Necaxa in the Leagues Cup group stage game at the start of August.
Lionel Messi missed the next two games for Inter Miami, but made a return against LA Galaxy over the weekend in the MLS. Messi came off the bench in the second half to score one goal and one assist in Inter Miami's 3-1 win.
Although, Messi was seen struggling, as he was constantly touching his leg during the match, and immediately walked off the pitch after the final whistle. As per recent reports, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner could miss the match, which will be a huge setback for Inter Miami.
In an interaction with the press, Mascherano confirmed that the 38-year-old is separate from his teammates.
“We will keep monitoring him, I can’t say whether he will play or not, but he’s not ruled out,” said Mascherano.
So far, Lionel Messi has scored 25 goals and produced 11 assists from 32 games across all competitions for Inter Miami.
