Slot admitted that he was ‘surprised’ by the comments made by Salah. The Dutch football manager stated he is ‘polite’ but not ‘weak’ to not react to the player’s comments made in public, and hence, he was dropped from the squad. He said:

“Usually I am calm and polite, but it does NOT mean I'm weak. When a player says things like that, we have to react as a club”.

Slot continued:

“And you can see he is NOT here”.

The Reds boss also revealed that he and Salah had ‘only one communication’, which was about him not travelling with the club to Italy. The 33-year-old took part in the training but did not travel with the side. It came just two days after his public remarks on the head coach and the club.
