FC Bayern Munich are hit with a major setback in the form of goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer’s injur which will sideline the superstar ahead of action packed week, including the UEFA Champions League knockout phase.

Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer sidelined with minor left calf muscle tear

Neuer sustained a minor muscle fibre tear, kleiner Muskelfaserriss, in his left calf during the team's 4-1 Bundesliga victory over Borussia Monchengladbach on March 6. The Bundesliga side's medical department described the latest tear as minor, suggesting a potentially shorter absence than previous episodes, though no specific timeline for his return has been provided.

The club stated that Neuer will now be unavailable for upcoming matches pending further medical evaluation and recovery progress. The injury marks yet another setback in what has been a recurring issue for Neuer this season. The statement read:

“Manuel Neuer suffered a minor muscle fiber tear in his left calf during yesterday's game and will be out initially as a result.”

Manager Vincent Kompany and the team now face a period of adjustment in goal as they navigate a demanding schedule in the Bundesliga title race and European competitions. The 39-year-old was substituted at halftime as a precautionary measure, with young keeper Jonas Urbig stepping in to help secure the comfortable win at the Allianz Arena.

The German superstar had only recently returned from a similar calf muscle fibre tear suffered in mid-February against Werder Bremen, which had sidelined him for several weeks and caused him to miss key fixtures, including matches against Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund.

Despite appearing fit enough to start against Gladbach following successful training sessions, the problem flared up again, raising fresh concerns about his durability at this advanced stage of his career.
