Story Highlights:

Fletcher remains confident in United’s direction after Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, stressing trust in the board’s plan.

United hold a perfect FA Cup record against Brighton despite recent league struggles against the Seagulls.

Manchester United's interim boss Darren Fletcher has said that the board will take a call about the interim manager, keeping the club's best interests in priority.

Ruben Amorim's sacking

United sacked Ruben Amorim last week after his post-game comments after the 1-1 Premier League draw at Leeds United about wanting to be the manager and not the coach. That didn't enthuse the club's management, who cut short the Portuguese's tenure that was set to run out in June 2027.

In his first game as the caretaker boss, Fletcher oversaw a 2-2 league draw at Burnley. Ahead of the FA Cup opener at home to Brighton on Sunday, January 11, the former United midfielder expressed positivity regarding club's future:

“They (the board) need to do what they think is best," Fletcher said (as per BBC RMsport via Utdreport. "They need to know what their plan is going forward for the success of Manchester United, and I'm sure they'll do that.”

The Red Devils have lost two of their last three games against Brighton - all in the Premier League - but beat them earlier this season, a 4-2 verdict at home in October.

Manchester United's record against Brighton in FA Cup

Manchester United have recorded three losses in the last four home games against Brighton, who are becoming a bogey team for the Red Devils. However, United boasts an impressive record against Brighton in the FA Cup.

Interim boss Darren Fletcher's side have a great 6-0 record in the competition against the Seagulls, most recently winning 7-6 on penalties after a goalless draw in the 2022-23 season.

Manchester United also have a great third-round record in the FA Cup, losing just two of their last 40 games, with the last of those two defeats coming against Swansea City (2-1) in the 2013-14 campaign. Meanwhile, Brighton have also progressed from 14 of their last 16 third round fixtures in the competition.
