Fernandes now shares an elite assist streak with Salah and Fabregas, adding a goal and an assist in United’s win at Molineux.

James Maddison praised Fernandes as “underrated,” crediting his vision and consistency as key to Manchester United’s attack.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has joined an elite club which features the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cesc Fabregas on an exclusive list. It came after his assist in his team's 4-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium on Monday, December 8.

Big feat for Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes

Fernandes started the scoring for United in the 25th minute before Jean-Ricner Bellegarde equalised in first-half stoppage time. Bryan Mbeumo  scored in the 51st minute, before Fernandes gave an assist for Mason Mount's goal in the 62nd minute. The Portuguese midfielder completed his brace in the 82nd minute through a penalty.

With his assist, Fernandes has now given an assist in each of his last five away fixtures in the Premier League for Manchester United. He joins Salah, Fabregas, Gerard Deulofeu, and Muzzy Izzet on the list of players to have provided an assist in five back-to-back Premier League games.

With this performance against Wolves, Fernandes reached four goals and six assists in 15 league games this season. He is third in the list of most assists given in Europe's Top 5 leagues, behind Michael Olise (8) and Lamine Yamal (7).

Meanwhile, with the victory, Manchester United moved to sixth in the Premier League standings, level on points with fifth-placed Chelsea.

James Maddison says Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes is 'underrated'

James Maddison, who is getting fit from an ACL injury, was on the expert panel on Sky Sports on Monday. While analyzing Manchester United's goals against Wolves with Jamie Carraghe, he lavished praise on Bruno Fernandes. He said:

"Well Bruno was at the heart of everything. Bruno's just such a top player ... I think he's actually probably underrated to many, Bruno. And I know he gets a lot of plaudits anyway but I think he is kind of underrated, like, for the quality that he shows consistently."

"Just every time he's on the ball, he does like to always look for the longer pass; he looks short, and some players have the ability to see every pass without having to look short, look long; he can just see it all. And the quality he has, you see with the Mason [Mount] goal, it's on a plate for him. He does that time and time again, to be fair," he added.

Manchester United signed Fernandes from Sporting CP in January 2020. He has since amassed 102 goals and 92 assists in 306 games for the club. He helped them win the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.
