Story Highlights:

Manchester United have now gone seven Premier League games without a win when Manuel Ugarte starts.

Fans voiced frustration over Ugarte’s performance and questioned his long-term future at the club.

Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte pulled out a forgettable record in the 2-1 Premier League loss against Aston Villa on Sunday, December 21.

Forgettable record for Manuel Ugarte

It's now seven winless Premier League games for United whenever Ugarte has started since a 3-0 win over Leicester City in March.

The Uruguayan has played 12 games across all competitions this season, starting four times, and is yet to register a goal contribution. Three of those starts have come in 11 outings in the Premier League, where the Red Devils are seventh following 17 games, 13 points adrift of leaders Arsenal (39).

Ugarte has featured just three times in the last eight Premier League clashes, with Ruben Amorim's team winning and losing twice apiece.

In the game against Aston Villa, Ugarte delivered 27/32 passes, with 15/20 coming in the opposition half, but no crosses, before he was subbed off in the 73rd minute.

Fans express their concern about Ugarte's performance

Fans were serious of the Uruguayan's performance, with one expressing their wish to not to see the player start again for Manchester United, while another requested the player to be offloaded:

"I don't want to see Ugarte back in the team."

"Ugarte shouldn't play another single minute for United btw."

"Ugarte shouldn't be a Man Utd player in Feb 2026."

Manchester United will face Newcastle United at home on Boxing  Day (Friday), having lost 2-0 the last time they hosted the Magpies in the league in December last year.

Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim following defeat vs Aston Villa

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim said that his team were unlucky to lose all three points against Aston Villa at the weekend. The Red Devils were missing important players because of suspensions, injuries and international duty (AFCON).

A Morgan Rogers brace - either side of Matheus Cunha's first-half equaliser- proved enough to sink the Red Devils. Villa have now won their last 10 games across all competitions, their last seven in the league and their last seven league fixtures at home.

"I think we were the better team today," Amorim told Sky Sports (as per the BBC). "We were unlucky, even with the injury of Bruno, but during the game even without him, we were the better team.

"We blocked the transitions quite well, and they did really well. We did a very good job that no one is going to remember tomorrow because what matters is the result."

The defeat was the second in Manchester United's 27 league trips to Villa Park, with their last being a 3-1 reverse in November 2022, their only two losses in the Premier League era.
