Lionel Messi recently had a heartfelt visit to the Spotify Camp Nou stadium in Barcelona, and the former player of the club posted a special message that hinted at his possible return. The World Cup winner took a glimpse at the revamped home stadium of FC Barcelona for the first time on Sunday as he was back in Spain before he joins his national side.

Following his special visit, the club legend posted a series of pictures of his homecoming to the place where he began his remarkable journey. The MLS striker poured his heart out in his Instagram post and wrote he had returned to the place he misses with all his “heart”. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner stated that Camp Nou is a place that makes him feel like “the happiest person in the world a thousand times over.”
The Inter Miami star wrote:
"I hope that one day I can return, and not just to say goodbye as a player, as I never got to do..."
After playing for his boyhood club, Newell’s Old Boys, for five years during his formative years, Messi moved to the La Liga giants at the tender age of 13. The 38-year-old spent most of his career with Catans before his heartbreaking exit to Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 following Barca’s financial problems.
Earlier, club president Joan Laporta had stated that things between he club and the Argentine had gotten worse following his departure. However, it was the past, and the relationship between the two was improving. He also stated that he hoped to give Messi a tribute that the player deserves. Messi couldn't say a proper goodbye to Barca, but what could have been better to inaugurate the new Camp Nou like this, which has been closed for redevelopment since 2023.
