Pep Guardiola has shown his disappointment with Manchester City over the lack of signing players amid big-spending Premier League rivals. While the Sky Blues boss believes that the pressure is more on the other six rivals, the 55-year-old is not happy with his side’s transfer restraint.

City’s Premier League title hopes have been significantly impacted by recent matches. This looks more faded following their 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur recently, and split the points. Guardiola’s side lost a two-goal lead, which was very crucial to keep their title race alive.

During his recent media appearance, Guardiola joked about being upset over City not spending more in the January transfer window. The club is seventh in the net spend table since the summer of 2021, while Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, and Newcastle have had a higher net spend over the last five years. The City head coach said:

"I'm a little bit sad and upset because in net spend in the last five years we are seventh in the Premier League.”

Guardiola further said:

"I want to be the first. I don't understand why the club don't spend more money. I am a little bit grumpy with them.”

Guardiola continued that the team won in the past due to their spending ability.  The City boss wished luck for the top spending teams, stating that he is waiting to see how they perform, as the scrutiny should be on those clubs for not winning more silverware.

Meanwhile, Arsenal continues to lead the EPL table and is a favourite to win the title this year. City is scheduled to face Newcastle in the EFL Cup. Guardiola’s squad will then play Liverpool in their upcoming game of the Premier League this month.
