Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa has replied to Kylian Mbappe saying that the current squad lacks mentality. Mbappe's statement slammed the mindset of his Los Blancos teammates after their 4-2 loss to Benfica in the UEFA Champions League this week.
Real Madrid's inconsitent season
Real Madrid have been going through a rough patch this season, while some games see them dropping masterclass performances, others have been big upsets and disappointments. Things did not look good after Los Blancos lost 4-2 to Benfica in the final game of the Champions League group stage, guiding them to finish outside of the top eight. This means the Spanish will face Jose Mourinho's side once again in the playoffs to claim a place in the UCL Round of 16.
Ahead of Real Madrid's LaLiga game against Rayo Vallecano on February 1, coach Alvaro Arbeloa was questioned about Kylian Mbappe's comments indicating the Spanish side lacks attitude. Arbeloa said:
"Mbappé said we lack attitude? We are working on finding the continuity in our game. It's time to work now."
Real Madrid has faced some massive losses this season. Earlier this month, Los Blancos bowed out of the Copa Del Rey after a 3-2 loss to Albacete in the Round of 16. They also lost the Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona this month. They are also a point behind the Catalans in LaLiga and will look to surpass them to compete for the league title.
