Xabi Alonso has provided his stance on the ongoing Negreira case, which involves the rival club FC Barcelona. The five-time UEFA Champions have been accused of corruption, and the Real Madrid manager has backed President Florentino Perez.
‘The Truth…’: Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso’s stand on Negreira case involving Barcelona
While addressing the issue on Monday afternoon during a Christmas address, Alonso stated that the truth must come out. The Real Madrid head coach backed the president, who has referred to the case as the ‘biggest scandal in the history of football.” Alonso said:
“We share the position of the club and the president. The most important thing is that, for the good of football, the truth about what happened comes out.”
When asked if Bracelona’s titles or La Liga had been stained by the case, Alonso refused to speak on the topic. The former Liverpool midfielder said:
“No, no. I’m not going to get into that.”
However, the 44-year-old wants the case to be “investigated.” The Spanish manager said that people abroad are “surprised that there has been no action or consequences.” The Whites manager believes that the case is “not normal.” He said:
“It can’t be taken as a normal thing.”
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are set to face Sevilla next in Week 17 of the La Liga competition. The 15-time UEFA Champions are coming off a 2-1 victory against Alaves. Kylian Mbappe scored the goal in the first half of the 24th minute, while Rodrygo netted in the second half of the 76th minute.
