Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk is set to hold another round of conversations with the players after their draw against Burnley at Anfield. The Dutchman is sad about the performances and interested to get them back on track.
Interacting with the media after the game, Van Dijk revealed he will have discussion with his team they meet on Monday, January 19. Je said that the Liverpool Players need to start doing better on the pitch after becoming sloppy in recent games.
The Reds skipper wants to sort the problems, which has seen them struggle to secure maximum points. He said:
“I’m frustrated that after 60 minutes we started to become sloppy and it’s not the first time. It’s been spoken about already but we have to address it again apparently and Monday will be a big one for it because Wednesday will be a very difficult game over there not only because of the atmosphere but it’s against a (Roberto) De Zerbi team who make it very difficult for you. It’s not about me addressing it, it is about how can we solve it because we all want to win games and we had plenty of chances to do so (against Burnley).”
Van Dijk is also hoping that the return of Mohamed Salah will help them and added:
“Obviously with his quality he can win games and have good results. Mo is a very important member of our squad on and off the pitch. Unfortunately he couldn’t get to the final of the AFCON but when he is back he needs to help us.”
After their draw at Anfield against Leeds United, Sunderland and Burnley, Liverpool now hold the forgettable record of being the first defending champions to have failed to win any of their home games against newly promoted teams.
Arne Slot named three Liverpool players who played well against Burnley
Arne Slot was angry with his Liverpool players after the Burnley draw and picked three players who impressed him in the game. He claimed that Milos Kerkez, Florian Writz and Jeremie Frimpong were the only players who performed well and said:
“You are talking about Milos and I completely agree – he had another good game. I saw Florian scoring another great goal and he was involved in a lot of other moments as well. Jeremie Frimpong, another good game of him – a big, big, big threat on that right side.”
Liverpool will lock horns with Marseille in the UEFA Champions League next, before taking on AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League next weekend.
