Bengaluru FC completed their trophy cabinet of Indian football accolades when they pipped Mumbai City FC 2-1 in the final of the Durand Cup at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Sunday, September 18. But in a moment that many fans have construed as 'disrespectful', a video went viral on social media that shows the Governor of West Bengal, La. Ganesan Iyer pushing away Bengaluru captain Sunil Chhetri for a photograph with the trophy.
The incident took place during the presentation, the video shows the West Bengal governor La. Ganesan stood behind Chhetri when the Indian football team's captain handed the trophy. During the photo ceremony in front of the press, the minister was seen pushing Chhetri to the side to make his way in the middle and pose for the photograph with the trophy.
In another video, young forward Sivasakthi, the highest goalscorer for Bengaluru FC in the competition, was also seen pushed aside by another of the guests. Present in the frame is Fijian striker Roy Krishna, along with other guests at the event.
In the match, it was Brazilian defender Alan Costa who scored the winning goal for Bengaluru FC to help his side win their maiden Durand Cup title. MCFC midfielder Apuia scored the equaliser after Sivasakthi's opener, before Costa sealed the win in the second half.
