Aitana Bonmati of FC Barcelona Feminin won her third successive Ballon d’Or title after the midfielder beat Mariona Caldentey and Alessia Russo, both from Arsenal. Following the title of her collection, she has surpassed teammate and country partner Alexia Putellas.

By achieving this feat, Bonmati has now become the first women's player to win the Ballon d'Or three times. Lionel Messi was the last player to have won the title three times in a row, winning it from 2009 to 12. She is also the woman to have the most Ballon d’Or titles.
The Spanish star won a domestic treble with her side although she lost the UEFA Women's Champions League title following a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal. The 27-year-old has played an integral role in all the competitions.
Additionally, the Ligue F player also helped her national team reach its first-ever Euros final, before losing 1-0 to England. She also netted an extra-time goal that secured Spain’s semifinal victory.
Putellas is ranked second in the list of most Ballon d’Or titles in the women’s category with two. The 31-year-old captured the titles back-to-back in 2021 and 2022.

Bonmati took the award with Mariona Caldentey, her international teammate coming second. There were five players from England in the Top 10. Alessia Russoz, Chloe Kelly, and Leah Williamson came third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Bonmati began her football journey from the youth academy of FC Barcelona. She was just 17 when she made her professional debut in the Blaugrana jersey.
Meanwhile, in the men's category, Ousmane Dembele of Paris Saint-Germain took home the title at the 69th edition of the awards held at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, beating Lamine Yamal of Barcelona. The France international scored 35 goals last season as the Ligue 1 team won the historic treble triumph.
