Cardiff City have been charged by the Football Association (FA) during a Carabao Cup match against Chelsea FC. The charge relates to discriminatory behavior reported from the fixture, with the FA taking formal action against the Championship club.
Why is Cardiff City charged by FA in EPL Cup game vs Chelsea?
FA has charged Cardiff City for breaching conduct rules after a minority of fans allegedly directed homophobic chants at Chelsea during a 3-1 Carabao Cup loss on 16 December 2025 at Cardiff City Stadium, as per a report by Sky Sports.
The charge aligns with the FA's strict enforcement of anti-discrimination rules. The FA alleges the club failed to prevent spectators from using improper, offensive, abusive, indecent, or insulting words or behaviour.
Meanwhile, Cardiff City swiftly condemned the behaviour in an official statement, emphasising that the chants came from only a small number of individuals, while cops have also been investigating and trying to identify the culprits.
The club reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity, highlighted robust security measures implemented before, during, and after the fixture, and expressed full support for South Wales Police in pursuing those responsible.
It stressed that no form of discrimination is tolerated at the club or in society, reminding fans that such actions are treated as criminal offences.
