Xabi Alonso has been under fire following Real Madrid’s recent troubles under the manager. The situation has intensified after Los Blancos’ 1-1 draw against Girona recently. The Whites have now drawn all of their last three league matches following their visits to Rayo Vallecano and Elche.
While the pressure is mounting for the former Bayern Munich and Liverpool star, Real Madrid's head coach has revealed what he talked to president Florentino Perez about ahead of the team facing another tough opponent, Athletic Bilbao.
Xabi Alonso speaks to Real Madrid about turnaround ahead of Bilbao match
During a news press conference on Tuesday, Alonso said that he “spoke” to Florentino Perez. He revealed:
“The conversations and tone are positive.”
Speaking on what the two talked about, Alonso said:
“We want to turn the results around, and that's what we've spoken about.”
Alonso, the former midfielder, also said that he held meetings with his squad to discuss how they can improve the ongoing situation following the back-to-back draws.
The Real Madrid head coach, during the above-mentioned news conference, said that the team and he discussed “football, the dressing room” and the “unity” amid the dressing room speculations.
Alonso stated that they are focused on winning the games and changing things for the future. Xabi believes that the match against Bilabo will be “a good opportunity” to change things around.
On the other hand, FC Barcelona, who are first in the La Liga table, will face title rivals Atletico Madrid before Madrid faces Bilbao. The 15-time UEFA Champions League winners are second on the league table, following the arch-rivals.
