A fire erupted just kilometres away from the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, which is the venue of the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul in Turkey on Saturday (June 10) night. The match between Manchester City and Inter Milan is set to kick off at 10 pm Turkish time, which is 12:30 am IST.
Photos and videos of the incident have been shared by many journalists at the site, with smoke rising over the stadium.
There is no update on whether the fire will cause a change in the kick-off time of the much-awaited final. However, it seems like the event has not caused a change in the timing of the match.
Meanwhile, the English Premier League champions will face off against Italy's Coppa Italia winners in the UEFA Champions League final. While City are chasing the coveted European treble having won the Premier League and the FA Cup, Inter will hope to make up for the disappointment of their Serie A season with victory in the UEFA Champions League final.
This will be the first time that the two sides have faced off in the final of a major European final. Inter have had to wait for 13 years to make it to the final, unlike Manchester City, who last made it to the final in 2021.
However, the fortunes in these finals for both teams were different. While Inter beat Bayern Munich 2-0 back in 2021 to seal the trophy, Manchester City suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Chelsea in 2021.
