The Spanish League giants Real Madrid have clinched the record 14th UEFA Champions League title on Sunday as they beat Liverpool 1-0 to become the undisputed king of Europe.
Brazil winger Vinicius Junior was the match-winner, applying a close-range finish in the 59th minute from Federico Valverde's drive across the face of goal, while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois took just as many plaudits by making breathtaking saves by Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
The UEFA Champions League 2021-22 summit clash was Real Madrid's 18th appearance in the tournament which includes European Cup runs with Madrid making and winning the first five finals in tournament history.
The Spanish club has reached the Champions League final more times than any other team with AC Milan and Bayern Munich the next best with 11 finals appearances. Real Madrid's longest absence without making the European final was a 16-season gap between 1982 and 1997.
Real Madrid's record in Champions League finals is impressive with the club winning 14 out of 17 matches to date. They've in fact won their past eight finals in the competition with their last loss in the decider dating to back to 1980-81.
Their opponent that day was none other than Liverpool, who they faced in this season's final. Real Madrid's most recent Champions League final was also against the Reds with the Spaniards triumphing 3-1 back in 2018.
