The Indian women's hockey team successfully defended their Asian Champions Trophy title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Olympic silver medallists China in a thrilling final on Wednesday.
Young forward Deepika emerged as the hero, converting a penalty corner in the 31st minute to secure the win. Her performance throughout the tournament was remarkable, as she finished as the top scorer with 11 goals.
India had already made a statement earlier in the competition by defeating China 3-0 during the league stage. This triumph marks India’s third ACT title, having previously won in 2016 and 2023.
China, meanwhile, had to settle for their third runner-up finish in the tournament. Japan claimed the third spot on the podium, beating Malaysia 4-1 in the bronze medal match earlier in the day.
