Leon Draisaitl shared his thoughts after Connor McDavid's crucial goal for the Edmonton Oilers in Game 5 against Dallas Stars. The match was being played at the American Airlines Center on Thursday. Draisaitl deemed it as one of the nicest goals that he has seen McDavid score. 

What did Leon Draisaitl say on Connor McDavid's goal?

After winning the match, Draisaitl shared his thoughts on the goal scored by McDavid and explained that the timing, situation and pressure made the play stand out. 

It's huge, Draisaitl said. All things considered, my hockey brain goes to that's probably one of the nicest goals I've seen him score. Just the whole situation, how it played out, who he had coming up behind him. That's a big-time play. There's only one player in the world that can do that in that moment. We're very fortunate to have him on our side.

McDavid's goal came after Dallas had cut down the deficit to 3-2. The captain for the Oilers picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and comfortably beat goalie Casey DeSmith with a quick deke. The goal gave the Oilers a commanding 4-2 lead and helped them stay top in the game.

During the 6-3 victory in Game 5 against the Dallas Stars, Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist to his name. He finished the series with two goals and six assists in five games. During the 2025 playoffs, McDavid now has 26 points in 16 games. He has been consistent with his plays during the postseason with 20 assists.

During the regular season, he had registered 26 goals and 74 assists as he reached 100 points. Due to his 100 points in the regular season, he finished sixth in the league in terms of points and fourth in assists. 

After securing the victory, the Oilers reached yet another Stanley Cup final and will go up against Florida Panthers in a rematch of last year's final. Game 1 is all set to be played on Wednesday in Edmonton. 

Before Connor McDavid's goal, the Oilers had a strong 3 goal lead

The Edmonton Oilers started the game on a positive note, as they gained a 2-0 lead. Corey Perry was the first to score through a power play after a pass from McDavid. Mattias Janmark added the second few minutes later. Jeff Skinner scored the third as the Oilers had a commanding 3-0 lead in the first period. 

After the third goal, the Stars replaced Jake Oettinger with Casey DeSmith. But, soon Jason Robertson made it 3-1. In the second period, Roope Hintz made it 3-2. But, Connor McDavid soon scored and restored a two goal lead making it 4-2. It was Robertson who scored early in the third period, making it 4-3. Evander Kane made it 5-3 before Kasperi Kapanen sealed the match with a comfortable 6-3 victory.
