Azerbaijan Grand Prix: Alpine's Pierre Gasly disqualified from qualification after fuel error, will start from back of the grid

Pierre Gasly was disqualified after the qualification results came out at the ongoing Azerbaijan Grand Prix because his car A524 exceeded the fuel flow limit.

Along with Gasly, Kick Sauber's driver Zhou Guanyu is being penalised for exceeding his limits for power unit components.

The driver for Alpine, Pierre Gasly was disqualified after the qualification results came out at the ongoing Azerbaijan Grand Prix. It came to the knowledge of the stewards that Gasly's A524 exceeded the fuel flow limit. Due to this, he will now start the race from the back of the grid.

 

Tough practice sessions for Pierre Gasly

 

It was challenging out there for the Alpine driver in the FP1, FP2 and FP3 sessions. He finished the FP1 and FP2 in 18th spot and took the 15th position in FP3. But, he showed his skills on the track in the qualifying session, and he improved his pace on the streets of Baku.

 

He ran as high as fourth in the Q1 session which saw him earn a safe package to Q2. Gasly could only manage to clock a lap time that saw him finish in the 13th spot, ahead of rivals from Haas and Aston Martin - Nico Hulkenberg and Lance Stroll.

Shortly after the session ended, both Gasly and Alpine were called before the stewards for an alleged violation of Article 5.2.3 of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations. The article is about the exceeding limit of the fuel mass flow.

 

Apart from Gasly, Kick Sauber's driver Zhou Guanyu is being penalized for exceeding his limits for power unit components and both of them will now start from the back of the grid.

 

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc secured his fourth consecutive pole at Azerbaijan

 

Ferrari's star driver Charles Leclerc was able to set a lap time in the Q3 session that saw him take the fourth consecutive pole in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. But in the past at the street circuit of Baku, Leclerc has not managed to win a race.

 

Meanwhile, it was Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz who took the second and third positions. Max Verstappen finished in the sixth spot as his teammate Sergio Perez finished above him with a P4 to his name. Lando Norris' title hopes took a big damage after finishing in the 17th spot.
