Red Bull's star driver and defending F1 champion, Max Verstappen has his doubts over whether the team will win a race again this season after the team's winless run has reached to 5 races
Dutch Grand Prix 2024
The Dutch driver came second in his home Grand Prix weekend and lost to McLaren's Lando Norris with a whopping margin of 22 seconds. He stated after the Qualifying session and the race that RB20 is "not quick enough" to contend for the top spot.
It’s up to us to find a better balance in the car to be more competitive: Max Verstappen
The Spanish Grand Prix was the last race Verstappen had won. During the Thursday, August 29th media duties, Max was asked whether he will have a car to win again this season to which he said, "At the moment we don’t, but there are a lot of different tracks coming up where hopefully we can do better."
"I don’t expect the weekends to be all the time like Zandvoort. I think for us it was just not a great weekend, we were just always a bit too slow and now it’s up to us to find a better balance in the car to be more competitive. It’s a more difficult period than we would’ve liked, that’s for sure, but everyone is trying to stick together and improve it. We’re working very hard to find more performance again," Verstappen added.
"A tough weekend is still P2, so that’s not too bad, but we want more – we want to win, or at least challenge for a win. In Zandvoort that was definitely not the case, but I’m confident that we can be more competitive than what we showed." Verstappen concluded.
As we head to the 16th race of the calendar in the form of Italian Grand Prix, Verstappen and Red Bull will be hoping to extend their lead at the top. Max leads the Drivers' standings with 295 points and Red Bull leads the Constructors' table with 434 points.
Norris (225) is nearing Verstappen (295) in Drivers' standings as there are 70 points that separate them. On the other hand, McLaren (404) is also cutting the deficit with Red Bull (434) with the deficit coming down to 30 points.
