NASCAR legend Kyle Busch doesn’t see much value in having his son Brexton race in the ARCA Menards Series, even when the young talent becomes eligible. The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion made it clear in Kansas that he’s charting a different course for his son's budding career.
“No, complete waste of time,” Busch bluntly said when asked if Brexton might take the ARCA route in the future.
Brexton Busch Already Making His Mark at Age 9
Despite being just nine years old, Brexton Busch is already turning heads in the motorsports world. Earlier this year, the youngster shared the track with his father for the first time in a real race at Millbridge Speedway. Kyle secured third place, while Brexton impressed with a sixth-place finish in a competitive 20-car lineup.
Brexton has been racing frequently and even goes wheel-to-wheel on dirt tracks with Owen Larson, the son of NASCAR star Kyle Larson. The younger Busch is quickly emerging as a key figure in the next generation of racing talent.
Kyle Busch Enjoys Being a Racing Dad
While balancing his own Cup Series schedule with Richard Childress Racing, Busch is also committed to being trackside for Brexton’s races. Speaking on the Door Bumper Clear podcast, he explained how he stays involved—not just as a parent, but as a competitor.
“I enjoy it. I think it's fun. It's just, while we were out doing all of this, traveling to these places and I'm sitting there in a pit area and when he was just running junior sprints, it was like, 'Okay, I'm kind of bored. I could do something too.'
I might as well be out there honing my skills or at least learning this thing and seeing what it's all about. But so I've gotten into it and have run everywhere that we've been. I have a car for me, a car for Brexton. And so whenever I get the chance to get behind the wheel to go to the dirt shows, I'll go get some.”
Busch often races alongside Brexton at various venues, making it a family affair. Their next stop includes a trip to the historically challenging Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina.
Eyes on the Tulsa Shootout
One of the key events on the Busch family calendar is the Tulsa Shootout, an elite dirt track competition for young drivers. Kyle is hopeful Brexton can create history there.
“I think I'll keep the stuff for a while, and if he likes it and still wants to go do it, and like Tulsa Shootout, right? We'll keep going and running Tulsa Shootout. He has, right now, I mean, he's nine.
He can be in the restricters until he's 13 or 14. So we've got three, four tries of that class to be able to go get a win. So our goal, knock on wood, our aspirations would be for him to be the first one to collect all trophies of every division at Tulsa Shootout. So that would be pretty cool. So we'll keep running that stuff when it fits in.”
Busch Focused on Growth, Not Fast-Tracking
Rather than rushing Brexton up the ranks, Busch wants his son to experience all aspects of grassroots racing before making the jump to higher levels like ARCA or NASCAR's feeder series. His comments indicate a deliberate approach, emphasizing development over prestige.
With a packed race calendar and an all-in family effort, Brexton Busch’s path is being built on dirt, determination, and decades of racing wisdom from his father.
