Lewis Hamilton narrowly misses out on a podium, finishing P4 at his home race.

Ferrari struggles in mixed weather as Hamilton battles understeer and tyre issues.

In a race filled with unpredictable weather and relentless drama, Lewis Hamilton finished fourth at the 2025 British Grand Prix but didn't hold back when reflecting on the challenges of piloting his Ferrari through the wet-dry conditions at Silverstone. The seven-time world champion, who was chasing a podium at his home race, delivered a raw assessment of his performance and the limitations of his current machinery.

A frustrating fourth on home soil for Lewis Hamilton

Starting from P5, Hamilton looked poised to capitalize on his experience and the crowd’s support to push for a podium finish. As the race unfolded and the weather threw curveballs, he found himself closing in on Nico Hulkenberg, who was holding onto third place. Despite the momentum, Hamilton ultimately fell short, crossing the line in fourth—just over five seconds behind the German.

Speaking after the race, the 40-year-old didn’t sugarcoat his evaluation.

“Difficult race, not a great one from my side. I did the best I could,” Lewis Hamilton admitted. “As it showed there was plenty of mistakes out there and very, very tricky conditions, in really a very, very hard car to drive here – this car doesn’t like those conditions. Not ideal, but we got some points at least.”

Struggles in mixed conditions

The Ferrari’s flaws were on full display as the circuit conditions shifted. Hamilton particularly struggled during the second stint on intermediate tyres, and the switch to softs later in the race didn’t provide much relief either.

“The tyres [were] dropping off, the car doesn’t like low-speed corners, lots of understeer, and I started knocking out the left front and then just couldn’t keep up,” he explained.

While Ferrari showed promise earlier in the weekend, the car’s inability to handle low-speed sections and changing grip levels made Lewis Hamilton’s job even tougher in one of the most technically demanding races of the season so far.

The silver lining

Despite the disappointment of missing the podium, Hamilton expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from his home crowd at Silverstone.

“What I take from it is the amazing energy from all the fans,” he said. “They’ve been incredible this weekend and it’s been amazing to see so many people switch to red and, yeah, got some points.”

As Lewis Hamilton continues adapting to life in red, his brutally honest remarks underscore Ferrari’s ongoing struggle to deliver a consistent package—particularly in adverse conditions.
