The 2025 Formula 1 season will kick off in Australia, with the iconic Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne set to host the first race of the year. This event will mark the return of the season opener to Albert Park, a venue that last saw the season debut in 2019. The 2020 opener, initially scheduled there, was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari debut at Melbourne
One of the most anticipated moments of the 2025 season will be Lewis Hamilton's debut for Ferrari, as he takes to the track at Albert Park in Melbourne. The race is set for Sunday, March 16, two weeks later than the 2024 season's opening. Fans are eager to see how Hamilton adapts to his new team after a major switch from Mercedes to Ferrari.
Changes in the 2025 F1 Calendar
While the Australian Grand Prix returns as the season opener, several other changes have been made to the 2025 calendar. Bahrain, which has held the first race of the season since 2021, has moved to April due to Ramadan. Saudi Arabia has also shifted to the same month, while China and Japan have been moved up to become the second and third races of the season, respectively.
The season will feature 24 races, concluding in Abu Dhabi on December 7. For the second year in a row, there will be no new races on the calendar, but the 2026 season will see a significant change. Madrid will host the new Spanish Grand Prix, meaning the 2025 edition could be the last one at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya.
Notable calendar alterations
April will see a busy month for Formula 1 fans, with a triple-header taking place between Japan, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. Spain has also made a shift, with its race scheduled to take place between the end of May and the beginning of June. Additionally, Belgium and Hungary have swapped weekends, with the Hungarian Grand Prix now taking place before the summer break.
Pre-season testing in Bahrain
Pre-season testing will remain in Bahrain, scheduled for February 26-28, two weeks before the first race of the season. The 2025 calendar promises exciting changes, with a mix of familiar venues and new challenges for teams and drivers.
