Indian star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will go under the knife for his hernia issue which is causing him pain in the groin. Neeraj made headlines after he won the silver medal in the Paris Olympics 2024. He is the only Indian athlete who won two consecutive medals in track and field events in the history of the Olympics.
The star javelin thrower revealed that he was forcing his throws in the final event because his injury was bothering him. It was also creating problems while running. Chopra was dealing with a nagging adductor niggle (a problem related to muscles in the thigh) in the run-up to the Paris Games.
“If we talk about my body, I have been forcing my throws because my groin injury has been bothering me. It restricts my running and creates issues while taking the cross-step. I believed in myself to make that throw because I know more is left to come. I have not been able to reach my peak over the last few years, but I will work harder, keep myself fit, and make better throws in the future” said Neeraj on Jio Cinema.
"I have a lot on my mind. When I am throwing, 60-70 per cent focus of my is on the injury. I don't want to get injured. Whenever I go for a throw, you will see that my speed is low. I am pushing myself," he added.
Neeraj finished behind Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who stole the show with an Olympic record-shattering throw of 92.97m to become the first individual Olympic gold-medallist from his country.
Neeraj Chopra's coaching staff
Neeraj's coach and Biomechanics expert Dr Klaus Bartonietz who played the important role in his Olympic medal will work with Neeraj only for a couple of months in a year. He was working on Neeraj since 2018.
