The Summer Olympics will be making a return to the USA for the first time in nearly three decades with the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The city has previously hosted the games on two occasions, back in 1932 and 1984. With three years to go before the commencement of the games, the organizers have announced the official schedule for all the competitions and also for the opening and closing ceremonies.
While the opening ceremony will be organized on July 14, 2028 while on the other hand, the closeing ceremony is scheduled to be held on July 30 at the LA Memorial Coliseum. Even though the opening ceremony is scheduled for July 14, the action will begin before it takes place. The competitions for the likes of cricket, hockey, handball, rugby sevens and water polo are scheduled to begin from July 12.
Meanwhile, this will be for the first time since 1900 that cricket will be featured at the Olympics. India will definitely be among the favourites to win a medal from that event. Other competitions where India will be serious contenders of winning medals will be shooting, hockey, wrestling and badminton. The Indian contingent performed well in all these events in the 2024 Paris Olympics and even ended up winning medals in three out of four competitions listed.
All eyes will also be on Neeraj Chopra who will be looking to win his third medal at the Olympics. The star javelin thrower won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and bagged silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Though the events for athletics are scheduled to begin from July 15, 2028 at the LA OLympics, the schedule for javelin throw is yet to be announced.
