Just a day after she was disqualified from the final of the 50 kg freestyle wrestling event at the ongoing edition of the Paris Olympics 2024 due to being 100 grams overweight than the sanctioned weight limit for her category, Vinesh Phogat made a shocking announcement on social media about her retirement from wrestling. She did so with a heartbreaking post that left the whole country emotional. She was the first Indian woman wrestler to make it to the Olympic final, but she didn't even get a chance to win a silver medal. However, less than 24 hours before this announcement, Vinesh also appealed against her elimination with CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports).
When will CAS give their decision?
The Court of Arbitration for Sports will give their final verdict on Vinesh Phogat's appeal against her Paris Olympics 2024 disqualification on August 8. The time is estimated to be 5:30 AM IST but can potentially go up.

Vinesh announces retirement
Vinesh Phogat was participating in women's 50 kg freestyle wrestling and when her final match was to be played on August 7, early in the morning her weight was found to be 100 grams more than her 50 kg weight limit. Due to this Vinesh was disqualified and her dream of winning a medal was dashed after which she announced her retirement.
"Mother, wrestling won against me, I lost, sorry, your dream, my courage is all broken, I don't have any more strength than this now. Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024. I will always be indebted to you all sorry," wrote Vinesh Phogat in an emotional post from her official ‘X’ account formerly known as Twitter.
