Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini has announced that their government will give all rewards and facilities that silver medalist gets to star wrestler Vinesh Phogat. They would also welcome her in a similar manner. He made this announcement after Vinesh Phogat's shocking retirement from wrestling just a day after she was disqualified from the final of the 50 kg freestyle wrestling event at the ongoing edition of the Paris Olympics 2024 due to missing her weight by 100gm than the sanctioned weight limit of her category.
Vinesh Phogat's retirement
Vinesh Phogat was participating in women's 50 kg freestyle wrestling event and even became the first Indian woman to qualify for the wrestling final which was to be played on August 7. However, early in the morning, her weight was found to be 100 grams more than the 50 kg weight limit of her category. Due to this Vinesh was disqualified and her dream of winning a medal was dashed. She announced her retirement from wrestling in an emotional and heartbreaking post.
"Mother, wrestling won against me, I lost, sorry, your dream, my courage is all broken, I don't have any more strength than this now. Goodbye wrestling 2001-2024. I will always be indebted to you all sorry," wrote Vinesh Phogat in an emotional post from her official ‘X’ account formerly known as Twitter.
Haryana CM on Vinesh Phogat
Haryana CM stated that Vinesh might not have been able to play the final due to circumstances but she is a champion for all of them and they would welcome her like one. He even announces that she will get all the rewards that a silver medalist would get.
“Our brave daughter Vinesh Phogat of Haryana had performed brilliantly and entered the finals in the Olympics. Due to some reasons she may not have been able to play the Olympic final but she is a champion for all of us. Our government has decided that Vinesh Phogat will be welcomed and felicitated like a medalist. All the honors, rewards and facilities that the Haryana government gives to the Olympic silver medalist will also be given to Vinesh Phogat with gratitude.
