Vonn’s comeback effort continues to inspire widespread support during the Games.

Lindsey Vonn’s pursuit of an Olympic medal in the women’s downhill at Milano Cortina 2026 continues to gather momentum, not just on the slopes but emotionally as well.

The American skiing icon, competing despite an ACL rupture, has received strong public backing from fellow Team USA star Mikaela Shiffrin.

Shiffrin, herself an Olympic Alpine skiing medallist, praised Vonn’s resilience while speaking at a VISA media event in Cortina d'Ampezzo on Saturday, February 7.

She highlighted Vonn’s determination and mindset as the veteran prepares for one of the most demanding events on the Olympic program.

“I am so excited to watch - I think we all are - her tenacity and grit, and what she's showing up with this Olympics, staying true to her own values. That’s straight-up beautiful,” Shiffrin said.

Confidence and belief ahead of downhill race

Mikaela Shiffrin also revealed she plans to closely follow the downhill race during her recovery day on Sunday, offering vocal support from the sidelines. Her confidence in Lindsey Vonn’s ability to defy the odds reflects the belief shared across the U.S. ski team.

“I have 100 per cent belief that anything is possible. She’s done such incredible things before, despite injuries and through injury. I have a lot of belief,” Shiffrin added.

Vonn’s comeback story has resonated far beyond the Olympic village. Her resolve has inspired the #BE LV (“I believe in you”) social media campaign, launched by actor Reese Witherspoon and backed by high-profile supporters including Gwyneth Paltrow and Demi Moore. The campaign has amplified public support as Vonn eyes another defining Olympic moment.

Mikaela Shiffrin set for busy Milano Cortina schedule

While cheering on her teammate, Mikaela Shiffrin is also preparing for a packed schedule of her own. The 30-year-old confirmed she will compete in three events at the Milano Cortina Games, including her Olympic debut in the team event on February 10.

As anticipation builds for the women’s downhill, Lindsey Vonn’s medal push stands as one of the most compelling narratives of the Games—fueled by belief from teammates, fans, and fellow champions alike.
