For the third time, the date for Vinesh Phogat's silver medal case has been pushed back by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). The update came minutes before everybody was expecting that they would finally hear the much-anticipated decision on the Indian wrestler's appeal. Everybody wants to find out whether Vinesh Phogat will be granted a silver medal after a shocking disqualification from the Paris Olympics gold medal match. On the morning of the final, she was 100 grams overweight, which ultimately cost her a chance at gold. Prior CAS forwarded its decision date and said it would report its decision on August 13, 2024. Notwithstanding, it will be finished on August 16.

CAS gives new date for Vinesh's Silver medal case verdict

"By application of Article 18 of the CAS Arbitration Rules for the Olympic Games, the President of the CAS Ad Hoc Division extends the time limit for the Panel to give a decision until
16 August 2024 at 18h00 (Paris time)," wrote CAS in their official statement while announcing that the verdict has been deferred for the third time.

Three key points on which Vinesh Phogat's case is being fought:

-She did not commit any fraud.

  • Her weight gain was due to the body’s natural recovery process.
  • It is the athlete’s fundamental right to look after her body.
  • Her body weight was under the prescribed limit on day 1 of the competition, and weight gain only happened because of recovery and that’s not a fraud. That is her fundamental right to replenish her body with nutrients needed to allow her body to recover.
