Manu Bhaker won a bronze medal at the Women’s individual 10m air pistol event on Day 2 bringing a medal in shooting after 12 years of drought. Two days later, she won another bronze medal at the 10m air pistol mixed team event with Sarabjot Singh. She became the only athlete of Independent India to win two medals in a single edition of Olympics. She entered the rare list of athletes -- Sushil Kumar and PV Sindhu -- who have won two Olympic medals for India.
Manu paid tribute to India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu and Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. She talked about how the two have inspired generations and also shared how she once made a fake social media account to defend Sindhu.
“In my time I have always known PV Sindhu and Neeraj Chopra (as legends of Indian sport), always appreciated them for their hard work. There was this one time when I made a fake profile to defend Sindhu I saw some hater's comment and I got so triggered and I defended her on that,” said Manu in an interaction with Sportstar.
Sindhu reacts to Bhaker's story
After Manu’s positive remarks for Sindhu, The 29-year-old replied Manu “Haha what a sweetheart!!! Welcome to the 2 Olympic medal club Manu!!! Way to go.”
After posting on X, she wrote a message about Manu’s triumph on her Instagram. She posted Manu’s photo along with her two Olympic medals that she won in Rio Olympics 2016 and Tokyo Olympics 2020.
“I couldn’t find a better picture to welcome this sweet young girl into the 2 Olympic Medal Club! From defending me on social media to joining me in the club, it’s clear you’re a special talent. Manu, watching you bounce back from Tokyo 2020 has been inspiring! Godspeed, girl”.
Sindhu, Bhaker in hunt for 3rd Olympic medal
Sindhu defeated Estonia's Kristin Kuuba to advance into round of 16. She will be eyeing a record-breaking third Olympic medal. Meanwhile, Bhaker will have a chance to win her third Olympic medal as well. She is slated to perform in women’s 25m Air Pistol event on August 2 (qualification round).
