India's Tokyo Olympics gold medallist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra started off at World Athletics Championships 2023 in style with an 88.77 metre throw. Chopra's first throw was way ahead of others and it earned him a place in the final and a direct qualification in Paris Olympics 2024.
The qualification mark for the World Athletics Championships was 83 metre whereas it was 85.50 metre for Paris Olympics 2024.
Only Germany's Julian Weber managed to throw above 80 metre (81.05) in his first attempt. On the other hand, India's DP Manu's first throw was 78.10 metre but he jumped to third place with a throw of 81.31 metre.
