The bronze medalist of the Tokyo Olympics had a winning start to their campaign in Paris after a thrilling 3-2 win over New Zealand. However, they could not gain much momentum after the gold medalist of the 2016 Rio Olympics, Argentina had the Indian team on the ropes till the very last minutes but Harmanpreet Kaur's last-minute penalty brought the Men in Blue back in game and helped them draw the match 1-1.
No goal in the first quarter
Indian hockey players attacked Argentina initially and got a chance to score a goal at the penalty corner in the 10th minute but Sanjay could not convert the first penalty corner into a goal. After this, India also did not allow Argentina to score on two penalty corners. Due to this, no goal was scored in the first quarter.

Harmanpreet Kaur's mistake allows Argentina to score
In the second quarter, India captain Harmanpreet Singh missed not one or two but three penalty corners in the first four minutes in front of Argentina. The Argentine team later took advantage of this and in the 23rd minute of the match, Lucas Martínez played a shot towards the goal post and despite being hit by the hockey stick of goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, the ball went inside the goal post. Due to which Argentina took a 1-0 lead in the match and the second half ended with this.
Argentina misses the penalty corner
After missing four penalty corners in the first half, the Argentine team showed more attacking play during the third quarter of the second half. But then the ball hit the body of Jarmanpreet Singh and Argentina got a penalty. But for them, Maico Casella missed the penalty stroke, due to which the Argentine team lost a golden opportunity to score the second goal.
Harmanpreet's heroic goal help India avoid loss
When there was one minute left for the fourth quarter and the end of the match. Then Harmanpreet Singh again got three consecutive penalty corners and he converted the third penalty corner into a goal in the 59th minute. Due to this India was able to avoid a loss. The match ended in a 1-1 draw and the Argentinian team was away from its first win in the Paris Olympics. In the first match, Argentina was defeated by Australia 1-0.
