Olympics 2024 hosts Paris are currently preparing for the biggest sporting event of the year which is scheduled to start from July 26, 2024. The host nation will showcase its culture in the marquee event with its unique opening ceremony and special medals. All of the World will witness these games and for the occasion, Paris has completely transformed different stadiums to host the Olympic Games 2024. Here are the list of stadiums where the Games will take place.
The Grand Palace
Paris' iconic Grand Palace, famous for its glass roof and nave, has been transformed to host a variety of sports, primarily fencing and taekwondo. The traditional museum is set to become an iconic destination for spectators and athletes in the heart of Paris.
Eiffel Tower Stadium and Champ de Mars
The green area 'Champ de Mars' stretches from the Eiffel Tower to the Ecole Militaire and is set to host Olympic events this summer. Although public lawns are usually used as public spaces, judo and wrestling competitions will be held in the area. The area, which stretches to the Eiffel Tower, will allow beach volleyball players to compete in the open air beneath the iconic venue.
Place de la Concorde
Famous for the French Revolution and the site of victory celebrations at the end of World War I, Place de la Concorde is the largest public square in Paris. For the 2024 Olympics, the square will host breaking, skateboarding, sport climbing, 3.3 basketball and BMC freestyle. With urban sports, the area will give players a completely different experience.
Palace of Versailles
Originally built to showcase grandeur during the French monarchy, the Palace of Versailles served as the royal residence and seat of government until the French Revolution. Today serving as a UNESCO Heritage Site, the palace is preparing to host the equestrian and modern pentathlon competitions for the 2024 Olympics. According to its official website, its walls and doors are being repainted and many renovations are also underway to make it shine again.
Roland Garros Stadium
Famous for the French Open, an annual tennis tournament held in Paris, the Roland Garros Stadium will be the venue for the 2024 Olympic Games. The venue is spread over 12 hectares and has 18 clay courts. This summer, it is set to host the boxing and tennis competitions for the Paris Olympics.
Esplanade des Invalides
Located on the northern edge of the iconic Hotel des Invalides, the Esplanade des Invalides is a vast green area initially used for the military. Over time, the venue has become a favourite spot in the heart of Paris. In 2024, the Esplanade des Invalides is set to become the main venue for archery and para-archery events.
Stade de France
Famous for hosting the 1998 men's FIFA World Cup final, the Stade de France is the country's most iconic stadium and has become a world-renowned venue. At Paris 2024, it will host the rugby sevens and athletics competitions in 2024, which is expected to provide a memorable Olympic experience.
Trocadero
The men's (273km) and women's (154km) road cycling races will start and finish at the Trocadero on 3 and 4 August. The venue is located across the River Seine from the Eiffel Tower, with decorative fountains, grand museums and views of the sunrise and sunset from the Eiffel Tower on the riverside.
Yves-du-Manoir
Yves-du-Manoir will return to its history-filled setting during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Located in Colombes, France, the stadium was the main venue for the 1924 Olympics, when it hosted the opening ceremony, track and field, cycling and other sports. The stadium returned to the world stage in 1938, when it hosted three men's FIFA World Cup games, including the final between Italy and Hungary. For the 2024 Games, the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium will be home to field hockey.
