In fact, the Indian team is currently on top in Pool B with seven points. Whereas out of the six teams included in Pool B, the top four teams will make it to the quarterfinals. The teams of New Zealand and Ireland have lost their first three matches and if they win the remaining two matches, they will be able to reach a maximum of six points. Which will be less than seven points of the Indian hockey team. In this sense, it is now certain that India will go to the quarterfinals.

Pool B standings

Apart from India, the teams of Belgium and Australia are currently occupying second and third positions with six points after winning their first two matches. At the same time, Argentina, the gold medalist of the 2016 Rio Olympics, has registered its first win of the Paris Olympics by 2-0 against New Zealand. Earlier, Argentina had played a 1-1 draw against India whereas it had lost 0-1 against Australia. Whereas if we look at the journey of the Indian hockey team so far, in the first match it defeated New Zealand 3-2, then played a 1-1 draw with Argentina, and after a 2-0 victory over Ireland on 29th July. Now the place in the quarterfinals has been confirmed.
