India's track and field campaign at the Paris Olympics suffered a setback as both the men's and women's 4x400 meter relay teams failed to qualify for the finals.
India's Disappointing Relay Performance
The women's team, comprising Jyothika Sri Dandi, Subha Venkatesan, Vithya Ramraj, MR Poovamma, and Prachi, finished a disappointing 15th out of 16 teams, with only Cuba recording a slower time. The Indian women struggled from the outset and were unable to recover. In contrast, the United States dominated the event, setting a season-best time, while Great Britain also recorded their fastest time of the season.
Six Teams Qualify for Women's 4x400m Relay Final
France, Jamaica, Belgium, Netherlands, Ireland, and Canada secured their places in the final of the women's 4x400 meter relay event. These teams joined the United States and Great Britain in advancing to the next round.
Indian women's team, comprising Jyothika Sri Dandi, Subha Venkatesan, Vithya Ramraj, MR Poovamma, and Prachi, clocked a time of 3:32:51, with only Cuba finishing behind them. India struggled from the start and was unable to make a comeback. The United States dominated the event, setting a new season-best time of 3:21:44, while Great Britain also recorded their fastest time of the season.
India's Men's Relay Team Falls Short
India's men's 4x400 metre relay team, consisting of Amol Jacob, Rajesh Ramesh, Santhosh Kumar, Muhammed Ajmal, and Muhammed Anas, narrowly missed out on a spot in the final. Despite a strong effort and a season-best time of 3:00.58, the team finished in 10th place. Botswana dominated the qualifiers, securing the top spot with a time of 2:57.76. Joining them in the final are Great Britain, the United States, Japan, France, Belgium, Zambia, and Italy. Germany, Brazil, and Poland also recorded their best times of the season but were unable to advance.
India secured its place in both the men's and women's 4x400m relay events at the Paris 2024 Olympics by qualifying at the World Athletics Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, earlier this year.
