Indian star wrestler Vinesh Phogat who was disqualified from the 50kg women's wrestling event in the recently concluded Paris Olympics after reaching the final due to being 100 gm overweight than the sanctioned weight limit left the games village before the final verdict of her appeal to get a silver medal. She is now awaiting for the decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) on her appeal. She created history by becoming the first Indian female wrestler to qualify for the final in the Olympics.

The verdict on Vinesh Phogat's case will come on August 13 at 9:30 pm. Vinesh and the rest of India would be hopeful that the decision comes in their favour and they can raise their tally of Paris Olympics 2024 medals to seven medals from six.
-She did not commit any fraud.
- Her weight gain was due to the body’s natural recovery process.
- It is the athlete’s fundamental right to look after her body
- Her body weight was under the prescribed limit on day 1 of the competition, and weight gain only happened because of recovery and that’s not a fraud. That is her fundamental right to replenish her body with nutrients needed to allow her body to recover.
India's position in medal tally if Vinesh gets silver
Vinesh Phogat's silver will be historic as she will become the first Indian female wrestler to win a silver medal in the Olympics. Currently, India stands in the 71st position among 84 countries that won a medal. They have one silver and five bronze medals. If they get another medal here which would potentially be Vinesh Phogat's silver, they will jump four spots and find themselves on the 67th spot. Pakistan who only won one medal is in the 62nd position as their sole medal was a gold. India will not be able to surpass their arch-rivals on the medal standing as they don't have a single gold . Their tally of 7 is far more than their 1 but it is the colour that will help Pakistan stay up in the standings.
