Neha, hailing from the esteemed National Sailing School in Bhopal, had an outstanding run, amassing 32 total points.

In an exhilarating showcase of talent at the Asian Games, young Neha Thakur, aged 17, clinched a silver medal, while Eabad Ali secured a bronze, ensuring India's double medal tally in the sailing events on Tuesday.

Neha Thakur, representing India's next generation of sailors, made the nation proud by finishing as the runner-up in the girl's dinghy ILCA-4 event. This achievement marked India's inaugural medal of the day. Neha, hailing from the esteemed National Sailing School in Bhopal, had an outstanding run, amassing 32 total points. By virtue of the sailing rules, where a competitor's poorest score from all races gets deducted to define the net score, Neha's fifth race where she scored five points was removed. This resulted in her net score standing strong at 27. Consequently, she secured the second position, just behind the gold medallist, Noppassorn Khunboonjan of Thailand. The bronze in the category went to Singapore's Kiera Marie Carlyle with a net score of 28.

For those uninitiated, the ILCA-4 is a prominent one-design dinghy class in the celebrated laser series, symbolizing a unique class of sailboat. The girl's dinghy ILCA-4 event encompasses a total of 11 races, testing the skills and resilience of the participants.

Further adding to India's joy was Eabad Ali's performance in the men's windsurfer RS:X event. Ali demonstrated a commendable effort, with a net score of 52 points, earning him the bronze medal. He stood behind silver medallist Natthaphong Phonoppharat of Thailand and the gold winner, Wonwoo Cho of Korea. In the rigorous 14-race competition, Ali faced challenges in his second and third races, resulting in a non-finish. Consequently, seven points were subtracted from his original tally of 59 points. This deduction established a substantial 23-point difference between Ali and the second position.

In sum, India's achievements in the sailing discipline at the Asian Games underscores the nation's growing dominance and potential in the sport. With young talents like Neha Thakur and Eabad Ali leading the charge, India's maritime future looks bright and promising.
