The Indian recurve mixed pair archery team has progressed to the quarterfinals of the Asian Games following a hard-fought victory over Malaysia. Comprising archers Atanu Das and Ankita Bhakat, the Indian team overcame the Malaysian duo of Syaqiera Binti Mashayikh and Muhamad Zarif Syahir Bin Zolkepeli in a thrilling three-set match. Despite initially trailing, the Indian archers rallied to win 6-2 (39-38, 37-36, 39-33), overturning the Malaysians' 2-0 lead.
Indian teams also advanced to the quarterfinals in three other events: recurve mixed, compound mixed, and compound men's team, as the elimination round commenced at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre. The top-seeded women's compound team received a bye into the quarterfinals, putting India in contention for medals in four events.
In the upcoming quarterfinals, Das and Ankita will face the fourth-seeded Indonesian pair. A victory could set them up for a potential semifinal clash with the top-seeded Koreans in the Olympic qualifying event. Meanwhile, in the compound mixed team event, India's top-seeded duo, Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, secured a victory over UAE's Amna Alawadhi and Mohammed Binamro with a score of 159-151.
They are set to face the eighth-seeded Malaysian pair in the quarterfinals. In the compound men's team event, the Indian trio of Ojas, Abhishek Verma, and Prathamesh Jawkar triumphed over Singapore's Woon Teng NG, Lee Chung Hee Alan, and Jun Hui Goh with a score of 235-219.
The second-ranked Indian team will compete against the lower-ranked Bhutanese team in the quarterfinals, with a potential showdown against the third-seeded Chinese Taipei in the semifinals. Additionally, the top-seeded Indian women's compound team, consisting of Jyothi, Aditi Swami, and Parneet Kaur, will commence their campaign in the quarterfinals against the ninth-seeded Hong Kong team, having received a bye in earlier rounds.
