27-year-old Jake Paul defeat legendary boxer Mike Tyson by unanimous decision on November 15 in a much-awaited clash at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Tyson who returned after 19 years of absence from the ring was not quick enough to match Paul but made all the way through to eight rounds (two minutes each). The judges ruled in Paul's favour by 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73.
There was no knockout punch delivered by either of the two. Paul threw more decisive blows whereas Tyson could not move like he used to. As the final bell was about to ring, Paul bowed down to Tyson and paid homage to the 58-year-old who went all the way. Then, the two fighters who were involved in nasty pre-match antics embraced each other.
Paul improved his professional record to 11-1. On the other end, Tyson lost the seventh fight of his professional career. He has had 50 wins so far.
Post-match comments
After the fight, Tyson was asked whether it is the last time fans will see him in the boxing ring to which he responded, "I don't think so. Maybe the brother (Logan Paul)."
Replying to Tyson, Jake's brother Logan said that he'll kill Tyson in the ring.
Then, the broadcaster asked Jake who will he go up against next.
“Anyone I want,” Paul said. “Everyone is next on the list.”
Prize money for fight
Considering the interest the fight has generated, the two fighters are set to get a big amount. While the official prize money is yet to be revealed, Jake in the pre-fight press conference said he is 'here to make $40 million and knock out a legend".
The legendary boxer Tyson is set to receive $20 million as reported last month by USA Today.
"Boxing industry experts have estimated Tyson could make somewhere in the range of $20 million at various times since the event was announced last March," the report said.
