A life-sized statue of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar is set to be unveiled on the eve of the World Cup match between India and Sri Lanka at Mumbai's iconic Wankhede Stadium. Earlier this year, plans emerged to place the statue inside the stadium, and the final touches were meticulously completed on October 31.
The long-awaited unveiling ceremony is scheduled for November 1, and it promises to be grand and splendid.
This remarkable statue captures the iconic batsman in mid-stroke, thoughtfully positioned near the famous Sachin Tendulkar stand. The inauguration event is expected to be graced by a lineup of dignitaries, including the honourable presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar himself, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, Treasurer Ashish Shelar, and key officials from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). Among these prominent figures are President Amol Kale, Secretary Ajinkya Naik, and several other esteemed council members.
The sculpting talents of Pramod Kamble, a proficient painter-sculptor hailing from Ahmednagar, were entrusted to bring this monumental Tendulkar statue to life. This installation carries extra significance as it coincides with nearly a decade since Sachin Tendulkar's final game for India, which unfolded at the same sacred venue. In November 2013, his illustrious international career culminated after a gripping two-match Test series against the West Indies.
The statue itself is a magnificent creation, standing at 22 feet tall and depicting Sachin Tendulkar in the act of hitting a classic straight six, a shot that has become synonymous with his name. This momentous occasion celebrates a cricket legend at his beloved home ground, Wankhede Stadium, and it promises to be a day etched in cricketing history.
