A hard-hitting batsman and more than handy medium paced bowler, Peter Trego made his debut in 2000 for Somerset in a Norwich Union National League match against Sussex. A highlight in his debut season came in a championship match against Yorkshire in which he made an unbeaten 27 and followed it up with figures of 4/84 in the first innings.

By the end of the same season, he was selected to play for the England U19 team which was scheduled to play Sri Lanka U19. He featured in all the three ODIs and played in the only Test as well and scored and impressive 90 and took one wicket for 48 runs.

Trego remained in the Somerset team for another couple of season after which he moved to Kent in 2003. He followed this up with a few games for Worcestershire XI and then moved on to play for Middlesex in the 2005 season. He finally returned to his boyhood club, Somerset in 2006. He then went on to score three championship centuries for Somerset including a thumping 135 against Derbyshire. In 2005, against Nottinghamshire, he displayed his best ever performance with a cricket ball, picking up six wickets for 59.

Though he is credited with having immense talent, he has never quite pushed the selectors for a place in the national side. He continues to play county cricket for Somerset.
