France's star forward Kylian Mbappe has joined Spanish giant Real Madrid on free transfer a day after the Los Blancos won their 15th UEFA Champions League title. Real Madrid on June 3 confirmed that Mbappe has signed a five-year deal.
So far, Mbappe has played club football for French teams. He made his club football debut at Monaco. He joined Paris Saint-Germain and played for them for seven seasons. He left PSG as free agent after the French club could not convince him to renew his contract.
"Real Madrid CF and Kylian Mbappé have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons," the official statement read.
Interestingly, in 2021, Madrid offered 180 million euros to PSG for Mbappe but the bid was rejected. It was the same amount PSG paid Monaco for teenage sensation.
"A dream come true, So happy and proud to join the club of my dream @realmadrid Nobody can understand how excited I am right now. Can't wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support. Hala Madrid!" Mbappe tweeted.
The valuation of Mbappe's contract with Real Madrid is said to be around 15 million euros. He is expected to be unveiled of the Santiago Bernabeu before he joins the national side for the upcoming Euro 2024.
Mbappe’s record for PSG
Mbappe holds the record for most goals for PSG. He has scored 256 goals since joining the Ligue 1 club. With PSG, he won six Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups and two League Cups. The 25-year-old also holds the record for most Ligue 1 Player of the Year awards. He has won the award five times.
Mbappe not a part of France’s Paris Olympics 2024 squad
France’s FIFA World Cup 2018 winner Mbappe is not a part of 25-man provisional squad announced by Thierry Henry on June 3. As per the rules, the club is not required to release their players for the Olympics.
