Rohan Bopanna bests his men's doubles partner Matthew Ebden to reach US Open mixed doubles final alongside Aldila Sutjiadi

Rohan Bopanna and Aldila Sutjiadi toiled hard for an hour and 33 minutes to reach US Open mixed doubles semifinal.

Bopanna and Sutjiadi 's semifinal match will be played on September 3.

After getting knocked out of men's doubles at US Open 2024, Bopanna went up against his Australian Open-winning partner Matthew Ebden and defeated him in mixed doubles alongside Indonesia's Aldila Sutjiadi to reach the semifinals. On September 2, Boppanna-Sujiadi beat Ebden and Barbora Krejcikova 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 10-7 on Court 5 in a match that lasted an hour and 33 minutes.
 

In the quarterfinal clash, Bopanna and Sutjiadi did not get off to a good star as they lost first three games. But they made a comeback and took the game into tie-breaker. Edben and Krejcikova did not go down in straight sets and won the second set by 6-2. Bopanna and Sutjiadi could not break the serve once as their opponents dominated the proceedings.
 

In the third set tie-breaker, Bopanna and Sutjiadi had renewed energy as they took a 6-0 lead. Ebden and Krejcikova earned points but eventually lost it 10-7.

44-year-old Bopanna and Sutjiadi will go up against USA pair Taylor Townsend and Donald Young in the semifinal clash on September 3 at Louis Armstrong Stadium. The American advanced to the last four with 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 10-8 win over Finland's Harri Heliovaara and Kazakhstan's Anna Danilina.

Bopanna, Ebden out of men’s doubles

Earlier, on September 1, the second seeded Bopanna and Ebden lost to Argentine pair Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in their pre-quarterfinal clash in straight sets. In a match that was wrapped up in an hour and six minutes, the Indo-Australian pair went down 1-6, 5-7.
