Carlos Alcaraz showcased his commendable skills by securing a win against Ben Shelton with scores of 6-3, 7-6 (3) at the National Bank Open. This marked Alcaraz's first ATP Tour match following his phenomenal Wimbledon victory over the tennis titan, Novak Djokovic. With this recent victory, the tennis landscape once again buzzes with chatter about the prowess of this Spanish sensation.

Toronto's National Bank Open will now witness Alcaraz locking rackets with Hubert Hurkacz in the eagerly awaited round of 16. The clash against the formidable American, Shelton, was indeed a testament to Alcaraz's form and determination. The initial games saw both players going neck and neck until a decisive service break in the fourth game tilted the balance in favor of Alcaraz. Capitalizing on this advantage, he wrapped up the first set in a brisk 42 minutes.

The subsequent set had spectators on the edge of their seats, with both players displaying top-notch tennis. It was an intense showdown, as neither Shelton nor Alcaraz gave an inch, ensuring no breaks. It was finally the world number one, Alcaraz, who clinched the set, and thereby the match, in a nail-biting tiebreak.

The tournament has also been rife with other stirring performances and unexpected twists. American qualifier, Marcos Giron, staged a remarkable upset by besting fifth seed Holger Rune 6-2 4-6 6-3. This victory paved the way for an all-American third-round face-off between Giron and Tommy Paul.

In other notable matches, tennis stalwart Gael Monfils delivered a surprise by outplaying Stefanos Tsitsipas with scores of 6-4 6-3. Canada's pride, Milos Raonic, kept the home fans cheering with his continued revival. He marked another win against qualifier Taro Daniel, finishing at 6-4 6-3.

In more shocks to the tournament standings, Mackenzie McDonald of the US toppled sixth seed Andrey Rublev in straight sets, 6-4 6-3. However, ensuring some stability to the rankings, second seed Daniil Medvedev confidently advanced to the next round with a 6-2 7-5 triumph over Matteo Arnaldi.

With such electrifying performances, the National Bank Open is proving to be a gripping spectacle for tennis aficionados worldwide.
