American tennis sensation Coco Gauff was left startled during an on-court interview as a power outage hit the Madrid Open. Fortunately for the former French Open winner, the issue came about after her match was concluded. Gauff secured a victory in straight sets over Belinda Bencic to progress to the quarterfinals.

Coco Gauff Caught Off Guard by Power Cut
The power cut hampered the play on Monday in the Madrid Open. A technical issue halted Jacob Fearnley's match against Grigor Dimitrov when a power outage affected the scoreboards and a court camera, which obstructed the players' line of sight. The players waited inside while the issue was resolved.
Meanwhile, Gauff was walking through her preparation for an early morning game, when her microphone cut out. The 21-year-old was clueless at first, she stepped back and covered her mouth as the TV feed lost audio. She was then seen smiling as she continued to speak to the reporter behind the camera for a few more seconds.

Gauff's win against Bencic saw her advance to the quarter-final stage at Madrid for the first time in her career.
Gauff has now reached the last eight of every WTA 1000 tournament except for the Miami Open. The 21-year-old will next take on the Indian Wells and Dubai champion Mirra Andreeva on Tuesday.
The power outage also affected other matches, including Damir Dzumhur vs. Matteo Arnaldi and the men's doubles match between Evan King/Christian Harrison and Matthew Ebden/John Peers.
In the women's draw, Mirra Andreeva was serving for the win against Yuliia Starodubtseva when the outage occurred, but she saved four break points to hold her lead before play was suspended. Andreeva will next face Coco Gauff, marking a rematch since their 2023 encounters on the Grand Slam stage.
Mirra Andreeva's past encounters with Coco Gauff include a French Open third-round loss in 2023 and a US Open second-round defeat later that year. Now, two years later, they'll face off again, this time as top-10 players, scheduled for Tuesday. The match comes after a power outage in Madrid affected multiple matches, including their own, with the outage also impacting other Spanish cities.
