Former US Open winner Emma Raducanu did not press charges against the man who caused her distress during her Round 2 game at the Dubai Tennis Championships 2025. She took the decision following the exit from the tournament.
Raducanu, who was visibly in plight during the game against Karolina Muchova on Tuesday, eventually lost the match 7-6, 6-4. However, the contest made waves not because of its result but because of what transpired during it. Troubled by a man, who was in attendance during the match, the British player stopped the play for a brief period. She had a conversation with the chair umpire, and she hid behind her as well, before ultimately bursting out into tears. Witnessing the episode from the other end, Muchova tried to console her opponent and following a brief period the match restarted.
Despite enduring the distress, Raducanu has seemingly put an end to the entire incident. Tennis journalist James Gray has reported that Raducanu has decided to drop charges against the man who caused her all the trouble. However, the individual was signed a formal undertaking to stay away from the British tennis player.
"Emma Raducanu has dropped charges against the man who approached her, left her a note, took her photograph and engaged in behaviour that caused her distress, Dubai authorities confirm. However, the individual has 'signed a formal undertaking to maintain distance from her.'"
