Felix Auger-Aliassime is gearing up for his much-awaited return to the ATP Finals in Turin, marking his first appearance at the prestigious year-end tournament in three years. The Canadian ace, who qualified outright for the event, looks determined to end his season on a high note after an injury-interrupted campaign that tested his resilience and consistency.
Felix Auger-Aliassime earns ATP Finals qualification
The qualification journey wasn’t easy for Auger-Aliassime. He secured his place after Lorenzo Musetti fell short in the ATP 250 final in Athens, losing to Novak Djokovic. The result confirmed the Canadian’s berth among the elite eight, rewarding his late-season surge and strong indoor performances. Auger-Aliassime later took to social media to express his excitement, highlighting what the qualification means to him after a demanding season.
The 25-year-old has battled through a tough calendar filled with injuries and form fluctuations, but his perseverance paid off. As he prepares for his ATP Finals campaign, his focus is now on maintaining fitness and competing at the highest level against the world’s best.
Fitness concerns eased ahead of Turin
After withdrawing from Basel due to fitness issues, questions surrounded Felix Auger-Aliassime’s readiness for the ATP Finals. However, in his pre-tournament press conference, the Canadian star offered a positive update on his condition, assuring fans that he feels fit and ready to go.
He shared, “Yeah, I came back home the next day, had to do some recovery. I mean, as you all know, I pulled out of Basel, got ready for Paris. I think I handled the situation well. It was tough matches. The body held up nicely.”
Auger-Aliassime continued, “I had to recover after Paris. I was doing that for a few days at home. Then I came here Wednesday night, hoping that things would go my way. No, I feel good. Like, look, it’s the end of the season. I’ve been dealing with some things. But I feel ready. I feel good.”
Ready to face Jannik Sinner in opening clash
The Canadian’s opening match in Turin will be a daunting one—a rematch against Jannik Sinner, who recently defeated him in the Paris Masters final. Despite the challenge, Felix Auger-Aliassime seems confident in his form and recovery, stating that resting ahead of the tournament was essential for his preparation.
Reflecting on his decision to withdraw from earlier events, he explained, “I think it was not even like the right decision for me, it was the only decision because for me it was tough to think to play Wednesday already in any other tournament. It was also jeopardizing potentially this tournament. It was, like, the only right decision for me.”
As he steps back onto the big stage, Auger-Aliassime will look to channel his recent momentum and fitness recovery into a strong performance, aiming to make a statement against the sport’s elite in Turin.
