Valentin Vacherot is making waves after his historic Shanghai Open 2025 triumph where he beat his older cousin Arthur Rinderknech 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to win the title. The 26-year-old made several records after the victory which he will remember for the rest of his life.

The Monegasque player, before outlasting his own cousin, had beaten Novak Djokovic in the semifinals to set up a final clash with Rinderknech, who came past Daniil Medvedev in another last-four fixture. It was an emotional moment for Vacherot, which he called one of the best moments of his life during the trophy ceremony. 

Meanwhile, as the internet is all praise to see the cousins’ final at the ATP 1000 Masters event held in China, here is a look at the records the newly-crowned Shanghai Open winner broke following the title win. 

  1. Valentin Vacherot became the lowest-ranked player to win any ATP 1000 Masters title. 
  2. Valentin Vacherot became the first player from Monaco to win an ATP title.
  3. Valentin Vacherot will rise from 204 to 40 in the ATP Rankings after winning the Shanghai Open title. 
  4. Valentin Vacherot almost doubled his career earnings following the Shanghai Open prize money with the US$1,124,380 added to his $594,077 career earnings.
  5. Valentin Vacherot had a late entry in qualifying.
  6. Faced his cousin in the battle for the Shanghai Open 2025 title.  
  7. The Valentin Vacherot-Arthur Rinderknech final became the first cousins final to compete against each other in a Masters 1000 final and the first family members since John McEnroe and brother Patrick McEnroe in 1991 at the Chicago Open.
