Stefanos Tsitsipas experienced a delightful surprise when his girlfriend Paula Badosa hinted at the prospect of marrying the Greek star. The couple recently teamed up for a doubles match on December 21, at the World Tennis League (WTL) in Abu Dhabi.
Playing for Team Kites alongside World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka and Grigor Dimitrov, Badosa and Tsitsipas secured a victory over Team Eagles' Daniil Medvedev and Sofia Kenin with a score of 6-4.
Following the match, Badosa and Tsitsipas engaged in a hilarious interaction.
"I mean, I think this was the test. Like, either we get divorced or this goes better and better. So that was the test today," Badosa said during the on-court interview.
"You mean break up?" Tsitsipas asked.
"Yeah. Divorce, no. Break up. Sorry," Badosa said.
"I was trying to wait for a moment. I was thinking, since when I was married or something. But apparently there are some hints in there," Tsitsipas replied.
Tsitsipas and Badosa started dating during the 2023 Italian Open in May and made their relationship public two months later at Wimbledon. Following injury breaks, both players are expected to return to the tour at the beginning of the 2024 season.
Tsitsipas expressed his delight in sharing the court with Badosa and said that he has followed her progress over the past few years. The two-time Grand Slam finalist also referred to Badosa as his 'favourite female tennis player.'
"It went amazing. It went amazing. I mean, it's a pure pleasure to be sharing with not just Paula but someone that, you know, I've been following for a few years. I mean, my favourite female tennis player," Tsitsipas added.
Both Tsitsipas and Badosa are preparing for the upcoming Australian Open 2024, set to commence on January 14. Badosa, who was sidelined in the previous edition due to a right thumb injury, aims to bounce back and perform well in the tournament.
